Keys for Transformation

Do you have a name for your car? Names like “Homer” if you drive a Honda Odyssey or “Attila” if you drive a Hyundai might make sense. (Attila the Hun-dai…haha)

Well, we proudly introduce you to Twila’s new-to-her Toyota “Jonathan”! Why Jonathan?

The Backstory

Public transportation in Lake County is really tough. Getting from your home to work or groceries can take 3-4 buses and lots more time than simply getting in a car and driving to the destination. Transportation is a huge limiting factor our volunteer intake ministers hear when talking to our neighbors about their job situation. Finding ways to connect our neighbors with reliable, affordable transportation is so important! Enter the CARS Ministry at Christ Church.

Last month, they hosted a car maintenance workshop for our New Hope Ministry participants. This month, through the generosity of a donor, they gifted a low-mileage Toyota to Twila, one of Love INC’s neighbors!

Like many in our area, Twila’s transportation was unreliable or non-existent. The car she had was old and needed repairs that were beyond what made sense for the age of the vehicle. She’s been searching for a job – even had a promising interview! – but without a car, the location made it out of reach.

God Has Given

Through her walk in New Hope Ministry, Love INC was able to connect her with the CARS Ministry to get started with their process. She even gifted a portion of the funds she received from scrapping her old car to the ministry, knowing God would bless it. Through His grace, the CARS team received a low-mileage car that they gave a thorough check-up and gave her a call. The keys would be hers!

Upon receiving the keys, Twila quickly checked out the car. They popped the hood together & reviewed all the maintenance tips learned at last month’s workshop (God’s timing, for sure!). The group placed their hands on the car and prayed over the gift. Then Twila asked, “Who is the lady who needs a ride to New Hope classes? I got her!” Already looking to share her gift!

Later, she shared with her mentor, Debby, that this is a gift from God. It will allow her to get a job, as well as to help with her grandkids. Debby mentioned that her son’s name is “Jonathan”, because it means “God has given”. So Twila officially christened the new-to-her car “Jonathan” as a reminder of God’s gift to her. To Him be the glory!
