Showing the Love of Christ with a Car Ride

A Love Story from one of our faithful furniture delivery servants:

Every Saturday that I have the opportunity to serve with our Love INC team, there is a special moment or connection that is made. This week it was with a nice young man, we’ll call “Dave”. *

Russ, Jim and I had a truck full of furniture, linens and household goods to deliver to a mother with 3 children. “Dave”, the 13 year old son, met us at the door and took control of the delivery with a smile. He politely asked his younger brother and sister to move out of the way so that we could begin to move the furniture. He immediately asked if he could help and jumped right into the flow. He was personable, bright and very helpful.

As “Dave” and I teamed up to carry items, we began to talk about one of his favorite subjects…cars. If you know me, you know they are one of my favorite subjects too. He saw that I had driven to this delivery in my old car, a 1968 MG, and he knew a lot about it and had a million more questions. We talked about its origin, engine displacement, and all the quirks that old British cars have. We talked about his favorite cars and found that we shared a love for Fords, specifically Mustangs. The next 15 minutes were spent on our favorite years, engines, body styles and mechanical basics. We both had a ball!

We found out that “Dave” is handy around the house helping his mother and siblings and wants to be a mechanic when he grows up. So, the guys and I made an on-the-spot decision and gave him our entire tool kit that we carry in our Love INC truck. He was thrilled and very appreciative.

As we were finishing up the delivery, “Dave” continued to talk about the “old car”, so I asked his mother if he could take a spin. She said “of course!” and he flew down the steps and jumped in the MG. We cruised the neighborhood for about 10 minutes and even got to wave at some of his friends. When we got back, he thanked everyone for their help and for the furniture and shook our hands. Prayers were shared with him and the family and our day was a little brighter because of meeting such a nice young man.
